I Am Diabetic Can I Have Breads?

IF YES WHICH BREADS ARE CONSIDERED HEALTHY IN DIABETES ?

WHITE BREAD or BROWN BREAD or WHOLE WHEAT GRAIN BREAD.

BREAD which is a carbohydrate meal can fit into a diabetic meal plan by using it in your total carbohydrate limit for that particular meal or snack.

How many carbohydrates you eat in one sitting has the biggest effect on blood glucose, not how much is consumed per day, so the key is to spread out your carbs wisely .

The American Diabetes Association recommends choosing whole grainbread or 100 percent whole wheatbread instead of white bread.
Why?

WHITE BREAD is made from highly processed white flour and added sugar.

White bread is practically stripped off of all the nutritional qualities including the fibre. In preparation of the white bread, wheat flour is bleached to make it white using chemicals like benzoyl peroxide, chlorine dioxide and potassium bromate. To top it, refined starch is added to this flour.

Although all these chemicals are used in smaller quantities, they can still be counted as health hazards. To top it, white bread often contains added sugars, including high fructose corn syrup.

Foods made with refined grains such as white bread are high on the glycemic index (GI) compared to wholegrain foods. The GI measures the ability of carbs to raise the level of blood sugar – the higher the GI, the quicker a food will raise blood sugar levels.

BROWN BREAD that look brown actually contain coloring and it does not mean it is better for you than white bread since maida (refined white floor) and added sugar is present in brown bread, that’s why it’s always important to read the ingredients.

WHOLE WHEAT GRAIN BREADS with high-fiber ingredients, such as oats and bran, are usually the BEST OPTION for people with DIABETES.

High fiber bread can help control blood glucose levels since it has more nutrients and fiber than white or processed wheat versions.

Benefit of 100% whole wheat breads is that it helps you to become full more quickly than white bread and can control your calories, body weight and therefore, your diabetes.
